My Story of London Life and other Tales
Educated and living in London since childhood my schooldays were spent exploring the Surrey countryside on my bike then progressing to motor cycles. In the History and Literary Societies at school I was a regular visitor to art galleries, museums and London’s theatre district. Weekends were spent at music venues Eel Pie Island in Twickenham and the Craw Daddy Club in Richmond recorded as the focal point of English R&B and Rock'n Roll with artists the Rolling Stones, Acker Bilk and Long John Baldrey, Rod Stewart describing Eel Pie in his autobiography as "a fantastic exciting destination"
A politics undergrad at Bristol University now with an Italian Lambretta I was performing with the Revunions , a drama society, and in my gap year I was broadcasting at Radio Juventud de Barcelona with Spain's first ever Radio Luxembourg style DJ programme “Teenbeat-su progama de jueves con sus discos” that I wrote and produced
After a stint at Air France on Operations as a French speaking flight dispatcher at London Heathrow I worked in banking in the City and rue Saint Honore Paris then embarked on a jet-set style career with the Gordons's gin and Johnnie Walker group managing their business in Europe and the Americas and what seemed at the time non-stop learning about brands, rooftop bars, tourism and geopolitics
The deluxe lifestyle I gave up to return to study firstly an MA research degree at the University of Essex, Department of Government with contemporary teaching staff Sir Ivor Crewe, later Master of University College Oxford and Prof Anthony King renowned BBC television General Election analyst leading to freelance work and then years guide training with the London Tourist Board for the UK driver-guide qualification then a City of London course followed by the Blue Badge. My second gap year was in Paris at the Institut Catholique and the Sorbonne studying contemporary French literature and philosophy followed by teaching MBA courses lecturing on Managing the Creative Process & Entrepreneurship at business schools INSEEC, ECE, ISC and ESG
My interest in writing was advanced by training at Reuters Economic Services and at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, International Press Section, as a Liaison Officer and interpreter ( Western Europe, Latin America, North Africa) leading inward government sponsored visits to Britain for promoting cultural understanding and international cooperation.
I am a member of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper makers and the City Livery Club and look forward to sharing my knowledge of London and Britain for an entertaining and informative visit
